Internship Weekly Blog – Week 6

 Day 1 – Blockouts & A Game-Changing Texturing Breakthrough

The week started with more progress on level blockouts, and I added a level partition to better manage our environment design. The highlight of the day, though, came from a teammate who introduced a new texturing method—and it instantly elevated the look of all our models. The quality boost was undeniable, and it gave the entire team a fresh wave of excitement about how good the game could look.

Day 2 – Final Blockouts in Sight & Workflow Adjustments

We made major progress on blockouts, completing a large portion of the level layout. At this pace, we're confident the rest will be finished by the end of the week. We also spent time aligning the team on the new texturing workflow, especially since some older models had been created using different techniques. This discussion was essential to avoid visual inconsistencies and keep our production pipeline efficient.

Days 3 & 4 – Same Grind, Steady Progress

These two days were more of the same—continued work on finishing the blockouts. It wasn’t glamorous, but it was important. We stayed focused on completing the foundational structure of the levels so that the next stages of polish and implementation can move forward without delays.

Day 5 – Extended Playtest & Scope Check

I invited a collegue over for an extended offline playtest, and we dove deep into the current build. We played for nearly two hours and were surprised to find that we only got halfway through the game, even after skipping a bunch of sections.

This was an eye-opener. The game has grown far bigger than we expected, and it's clear now that we need to re-evaluate the pacing, level length, and overall flow. On the bright side, the fact that there’s this much content already built—and that it was engaging enough to play for hours—was incredibly encouraging.

Summary

Week 6 was all about refining structure and realizing the scope of what we’ve built. The new texturing workflow elevated our visual quality, while continued blockouts pushed us closer to a playable structure from start to finish. The extended playtest was a major turning point, helping us see the bigger picture and plan for better balance moving forward. The pieces are falling into place—now it's time to fine-tune them.
